Yavapai County Launches Broadband Expansion in Verde Villages with Sparklight Partnership

Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter has announced the commencement of a major broadband infrastructure project in the Verde Villages, set to begin in early December.

Cottonwood, AZ — Yavapai County School Superintendent Tim Carter has announced the commencement of a major broadband infrastructure project in the Verde Villages, set to begin in early December. The Yavapai County Broadband Initiative (YCBI), in collaboration with Sparklight, will install high-speed broadband to over 4,400 homes and businesses along the north and south sides of Arizona Highway 260, east of Cottonwood. Funded through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA), this project aims to bridge the digital divide in the region by providing reliable internet access to underserved areas. Aerial and underground broadband infrastructure will be deployed, ensuring residents and businesses can access modern, high-speed connectivity.

Bringing Broadband to Rural Communities

The project underscores the county’s commitment to enhancing digital infrastructure, particularly in rural areas where internet access has historically been limited. With broadband access now recognized as a critical utility, the YCBI aims to ensure every resident has the tools they need to thrive in today’s digital economy. YCBI and Sparklight will host public meetings at Mingus Union High School to provide residents with detailed information about the project. The sessions, scheduled for November 21, 25, and 26, will allow attendees to learn about the project’s timeline, service areas, and construction process.

Sparklight representatives will outline their plans for the build, which will begin on December 2, and provide information on service options and projected completion dates. Printed materials will be available, and attendees will have the chance to ask questions about the project.

Meeting Schedule

  • Thursday, November 21 – Mingus Union High School Cafeteria, 6:00-7:30 PM
  • Monday, November 25 – Mingus Union High School Cafeteria, 6:00-7:30 PM
  • Tuesday, November 26 – Mingus Union High School Cafeteria, 6:00-7:30 PM

Residents are encouraged to attend one of the sessions to stay informed and provide feedback. For additional information, Superintendent Carter can be reached at 928.925.6560.

A Broader Vision for Connectivity

This project is part of a broader effort by Yavapai County to expand broadband access countywide. By leveraging federal funding and public-private partnerships, the YCBI aims to deliver high-speed internet to thousands of residents and businesses, enhancing the region’s digital infrastructure.
