St. Petersburg College Launches AI Certificate Programs to Meet Growing Demand

"As these technologies reshape industries across every sector, graduates of SPC’s certificate programs will have practical experience and critical skills for jobs in AI."

St. Petersburg, FL – St. Petersburg College (SPC) is stepping up to address the burgeoning need for skilled professionals in the rapidly evolving field of Artificial Intelligence. Starting Spring 2025, the college will offer two new certificate programs designed to equip students with the practical experience and critical thinking skills necessary to thrive in AI-related careers.

As AI continues to revolutionize industries across all sectors, from healthcare and finance to manufacturing and entertainment, the demand for qualified individuals who can develop, implement, and manage these technologies is skyrocketing. Recognizing this trend, SPC has created two distinct certificate programs:

  • Artificial Intelligence Responsible Use Certificate: This 9-credit program provides a foundational understanding of AI, exploring its theories, applications, and ethical implications. Students will learn how AI transforms various business functions and industries while emphasizing the importance of responsible AI development and deployment.

  • Artificial Intelligence Responsible Use Practitioner Certificate: This 18-credit program delves deeper into the practical aspects of AI, focusing on hands-on skills in machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and data analysis. This certificate includes programming courses that can be applied towards SPC’s Associate in Science degree in Data Science, offering students a pathway to further their education.

“For anyone curious about Artificial Intelligence and its influence, this is a great starting point,” says Jimmy Chang, Interim Dean of the College of Computer and Information Technology. “The greater the awareness, the more comfortable people will be with AI.” SPC’s commitment to providing accessible and relevant education is evident in these new programs. By offering both foundational and practitioner-level certificates, the college aims to cater to a wide range of students, from those seeking introductory knowledge to those striving for specialized skills in AI development.

With these new AI certificate programs, SPC empowers students to become active contributors to this transformative field, preparing them for the challenges and opportunities in the age of intelligent machines.
