To facilitate this expansion, T-Mobile has partnered with several fiber network operators, including Pilot Fiber in New York City, Intrepid Fiber in Colorado, Tillman FiberCo, and SiFi Networks. These collaborations enable T-Mobile to provide branded fiber services over existing networks, allowing for rapid deployment without the need to build infrastructure from scratch.

In addition to these partnerships, T-Mobile has made significant investments to strengthen its position in the fiber market. Notably, the company invested $950 million for a 50% stake in a joint venture with EQT to acquire Lumos, a fiber network operator in the Mid-Atlantic region. This deal will extend fiber services to approximately 3.5 million homes by 2028.

Furthermore, T-Mobile has committed approximately $4.9 billion in a joint venture with investment firm KKR to acquire Metronet, a regional broadband provider. This acquisition aims to expand T-Mobile’s residential fiber services to over two million customers across 17 states, with plans to reach 6.5 million homes by 2030.

T-Mobile’s foray into fiber-optic services is designed to complement its existing 5G Home Internet offerings. While 5G fixed wireless access provides flexibility and rapid deployment, fiber-optic connections offer superior speed and reliability, particularly in densely populated urban areas with substantial demand for high-bandwidth applications.
