Verizon Sensor Insights, a turnkey IoT solution, is being deployed by the Atlanta Hawks at State Farm Arena to monitor and manage the temperature and condition of sensitive technical equipment and to better track waste disposal and resource efficiency.
Sensor Insights’ solutions, which have use cases in insurance, data centers and pharmacies, are part of a larger technology initiative with Verizon to enhance stadium operations at State Farm Arena. The solution includes pre-approved sensors, Verizon-certified gateways, cellular connectivity, and a central management portal. The IoT technology deployment is a component of State Farm Arena’s effort to improve the experience for its fans and staff, according to Kim Rometo, chief technology & innovations officer for the Atlanta Hawks & State Farm Arena.
“By implementing Verizon Sensor Insights, multiple stakeholders can proactively monitor and manage critical operational aspects, ensuring a more seamless and efficient experience for everyone,” Remeto said.
State Farm Arena can activate, onboard and manage sensors and gateways, as well as manage cellular and IoT connections across multiple IoT protocols. As a result, it can receive near real-time alerts and trend analysis for operational decision making.
Verizon may be using the CBRS frequencies that it purchased at auction in a number of major cities. There has been much speculation about how that spectrum will be monetized. An indoor arena is a natural customer, because of their climate control and waste management needs.
The challenges of an operation like the Atlanta Hawks lend themselves to a private network, according to Joe Madden, principal analyst, Mobile Experts. Whether it is food, beer or team merchandise, the private network can add value by just speeding up the process of purchase.
